Title: All things WTAPS./15th entry「Filing」

From documents to current spec sheets
the 2 hole file which organizes various print material
is something that the atelier cannot do without.
The items which need to be managed in a more physically efficient manner get filed versus text data, PDFs, JPGs, etc. which get electronically stored in a computer.
Filing is not a spot for just in the meantime storage,
but it is to create with the notion of making a “one of a kind book that does not exist anywhere else”.
For example with documents, the contents maybe photo copies or clippings which may seem like garbage to some, but if it becomes a “one of a kind book that does not exist anywhere else” it will surely be an important archive.

Title: All things WTAPS./14th entry「Sewing machines」

Sewing machines are one of the most important tools in the process of making clothing.
There are 2 sewing machines at the atelier.
This is not a factory so it is not like they are constantly in use; products are not sewn here and they are not of any special specs.
Rarely samples are sewn up, but basically the main use for them are to create toiles to check the designer’s intent, spot sewing to confirm detailed specs, and making adjustments to samples.

But by having them here, it makes you constantly focus on the basic fact that you create by sewing fabric.

Title: All things WTAPS./13th entry「Manga」

Lately at the atelier, mangas have become a small trend.
We all read and pass it around.
I think each of us read something or the other on the regular
but I feel that for some reason this has not come up in conversations much.
When I was a kid, I am from the generation where inside my head was mostly made up of Shonen Jump; the essence or the base of reading manga is second nature.
From now on it seems that we will be bringing in our recommendations
and creating a collective for us to share.
We, as staff, spend a lot of time together
but there is a bunch of stuff which we do not know about each other
so this is something refreshing and at the same time also fun for us.

Title: All things WTAPS./12th entry「M-51」

The samples used in the process of creating the details
for the exhibition samples have arrived at the atelier.

Out of these, the military items have a great atmosphere
the way the color is faded through fatigue and by the sun due to the not so
good color fastness, the simple stitching, the hood and inner not perfectly
aligned; I feel the great atmosphere is from when all of this becomes as one.

But WTAPS products are created to be worn
so it may seem wrong when I say
there are many aspects that should not be followed.

So to create things that reflect both sides
I feel you have to start first by understanding
what that item exactly is.

Title: All things WTAPS./11th entry「Press room」

Asides from the atelier WTAPS has
a press room which is located about a minute walks away from the atelier.
It is mainly used for the twice a year exhibitions and for leasing the season's samples
but also catalog model auditions and various meetings take place here too.

Here there is a balcony facing the street with a full accordion opening
and is flat to and from the inside to out.
So when the season is nice you can fully open the windows and enjoy like an open terrace.
Sometimes careless sparrows or cats find there way in.
In the meaning as an unsuspicious space, that is exactly what this place is.
